The Department of Biological Sciences at Karakoram International University (KIU) is a broad-scope, comprehensive academic discipline that encompasses diverse areas of subject in the field of Biology with two major sub-disciplines, i.e., Animal Sciences and Plants Sciences, where wide range of expertise with dynamic professional skills in the field of animal health, genetic diversity, water quality, microbiology, wildlife, human health and diseases, biosafety and risk management, plant taxonomy, phytochemical investigation, floral biodiversity, plant disease and control, plant physiology, molecular biology, proteomic study and morphometric evaluation of local flora and landraces in Gilgit-Baltistan. The core principles of Biodiversity conservation and inventory of flora and fauna serve as the foundation for integrating the broad disciplines within the biological sciences at KIU, Gilgit-Baltistan.
