Department of Linguistics and Literature: A Hub of Academic Excellence and Cultural Preservation
The Department of Linguistics and Literature, established in 2004 as the Department of Modern Languages, is part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. With a modest student enrollment at its inception, the department has grown to offer a comprehensive program focusing on theoretical aspects of language and critical analysis of literary texts.
The department offers a four-year BS program in English Linguistics and Literature, available at the main campus in Gilgit and other campuses, including Diamer. Plans are underway to introduce an MS program in Linguistics.

The curriculum includes:
Linguistics: Core linguistic theories, sociolinguistics, and documentation/preservation of indigenous languages.
Literature: Critical analysis of literary texts, exploring devices, genres, themes, and historical contexts.
Communication: Development of written and oral communication skills.
Intercultural Competence: Appreciation for diverse cultures.
Research focuses on language and culture, with faculty engaged in projects documenting and preserving unwritten languages in the region and English Works
