Mathematics is one of the oldest academic subjects and is still very much alive and growing very fast. It considered very important in the learning and understanding of Science subjects in General. The advent of computers and data acquisition facilities has stretched the limits of what is possible in Mathematics to all branches of human endeavour. Mathematics is one of the most mature and well-developed disciplines of the basic sciences. The study of mathematics is not only exciting, but also important. Mathematics have an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the society by helping to solve problems in such diverse fields as medicine, Biology, management, economics, computer sciences, physics, psychology, food sciences, agriculture, engineering and social sciences etc. The Department of mathematics, KIU Gilgit is established in 2002 and it is one of the pioneer Departments of KIU. Keeping in view the Contemporary era of technology, research and knowledge based society the department decided to stretch its arm by introducing new programs in Statistics (BS & M.Sc) from semester spring 2010. The Department provides services to the entire university, from under graduate students to graduate students in mathematics as well as other departments who need to upgrade the quantitative and mathematical skills of their students. Having highly qualified experienced and young talented faculty members, the department aims to establish and promote KIU as a leading institution for teaching and research in mathematical sciences both with in Pakistan and Internationally.
